Later in the evening discover another side to Cordoba once the tourist hordes have gone away leaving the streets silent and strangely empty. We’ll go for a peaceful night-time stroll around some of the main attractions of the city, as we experience the deep silence of the mediaeval alleys of the Jewish Quarter and other historic neighbourhoods of this ancient city.
  • Explore intimate corners where the whitewashed walls contrast with the dark evening shadows. Venture into secluded alleys perfumed by rose and jasmine as you learn all about the myths and legends of this most mysterious of cities. The atmosphere here at night is completely different without the crowds of daytime visitors. We’ll pass the magnificent Episcopal palace, as we venture into the old Jewish quarter with its many characteristic squares and labyrinthine street plan. Nearby we’ll find the Plaza Corredera, the only closed Plaza Mayor in Andalusia.
  • he tour ends at the Plaza de los Capuchinos with its world famous Cristo de los Faroles, a particularly impressive sight in the evening where you can admire the image of Christ on the Cross, lit up with flickering lanterns and candles and decorated with colourful flowers in an atmosphere of quiet reclusion. Cordoba–Seville

  • (Day free for leisure on your own or evening tour in the Santa Cruz area)
  • Today morning after breakfast, proceed for the Cordoba station to carry forward for the train journey towards Seville. After reaching Seville, check in to the hotel. Later in the evening enjoy Seville tour by your own or enjoy evening tour in the Santa Cruz area (Optional at additional cost). With temperatures often hitting 40C in the summer, the coolest way to see Seville is without a doubt at night. This literary-historical two-hour walking tour of the historic Santa Cruz district starts at 9pm, which should be mild enough. As you explore the narrow streets and picturesque plazas of what was for centuries the city’s Jewish quarter, you will be regaled by verses penned by the poets most closely associated with the Andalusian capital. Like the rest of the city, Santa Cruz, which means Holy Cross, has had its ups and downs. Following the expulsion of the Jews in 1492, the district entered a period a period of declines, which allowed it to preserve much of its medieval layout and architecture. As a result, it is a warren of whitewashed lanes, alleys, archways and patios, meaning Santa Cruz is redolent of old Seville.
  • As the tour winds itself from the Plaza de la Virgen de los Reyes, site of the Giralda, to the Patio de las Banderas – which has gorgeous views of the belfry – listen to verses from poets such as Becquer, Machado and Aleixandre. This is a tour in which the exuberant guide is part of the experience as you will discover. Continue on to some of the most popular squares in the quarter, Plaza de los Venerables, Plaza de Santa Cruz, Plaza de Doa Elvira, and walk in the shadow of the old walls. Pause occasionally to hear the stories behind some of the statues and memorials in the area such as those dedicated to Don Juan Tenorio and Washington Irving. Overnight in Seville.
  • {Cordoba to Seville by train is approx. 45 mins.}
